Continuing Education and Competency (CEC) program

The CEC Program is a mandatory annual requirement for all CPPEI registrants to ensure ongoing professional development and safe, competent practice. Aligned with the College’s mission to protect public interest, the program promotes self-directed learning and reflective practice.

Registrants must complete 25 credit hours of eligible continuing education activities each year (pro-rated if registered part-year). The program consists of four steps:

  1. Self-Assessment (optional tool)

  2. Learning Plan & Activities

  3. Reflective Practice

  4. Audit Process

To remain in good standing, registrants must document learning goals, complete eligible activities, and reflect on their impact on practice and patient outcomes.


Eligible Learning Activities

CEC activities should be relevant to your practice and may include:

  • Attending workshops, webinars, or conferences

  • Completing formal education courses or certifications

  • Participating in case studies or quality improvement projects

  • Mentoring or precepting students or colleagues

  • Engaging in peer consultations or interdisciplinary team meetings

  • Serving on professional committees or councils

  • Conducting or participating in research relevant to paramedicine

  • Self-directed learning (e.g., relevant readings or online modules)
